THE CONSTITUTION

of the

RIDGE CREST BAPTIST CHURCH

304 South 161 East Avenue

Tulsa, Oklahoma

PREAMBLE

For the more certain preservation and security of the principles of our faith, and to the end that this body of believers may be governed in an orderly manner consistent with the accepted tenets of the churches affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, and for the purpose of preserving the liberties inherent in each individual member of the church and the freedom of action of this body with respect to its relation to other churches of the same faith, we do declare and establish this constitution.

I. NAME AND AFFILIATON

This church shall be known as the RIDGE CREST BAPTIST CHURCH, INC., Tulsa, Oklahoma, a non-profit corporation, and shall be affiliated with and cooperating with the Tulsa Baptist Association, the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, and The Southern Baptist Convention, and shall support financially the Southern Baptist world-wide mission program through these organizations.

II. ARTICLES OF FAITH

This body accepts and asserts that the Holy Bible, given by our Lord God, is the Sole Rule of Faith and Practice. A further description of the basic doctrines is delineated in the Baptist Faith and Message adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention at Kansas City in 1963.

III. CHURCH COVENANT

A covenant is a solemn and binding pledge of allegiance. Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

(For The Advancement of the Church)

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love, to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines.

(As Christian Stewards)

To contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.

(Alone and at Home)

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to educate our children religiously; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances.

(Before the World)

To walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, back-biting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the use of or sale of intoxicating drinks as a beverage; and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Savior.

(Toward One Another)

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer, to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and, mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other church, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and principles of God's Word.

ARTICLE VI - STATEMENT ON MARRIAGE

Amended on October 1, 2014 Business Meeting

Our statement of faith, the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 (Southern Baptist Conference), expresses our fundamental biblical conviction that Christian marriage is, by definition, the spiritual and physical uniting of one man and one woman in an exclusive covenant commitment for their joint lifetime. Christian marriage is God's unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His Church. As such, this local church believes that wedding ceremonies on church property are spiritual observances of worship of God, Who created this divine institution. As worship services, weddings on church property shall be officiated by one or more ordained ministers of the Gospel. The church may decline to make its facilities or minster available for any wedding if it is determined that one or both parties are not biblically and/or legally qualified to marry. Such determinations may be made by the pastor, church council, the wedding committee etc., subject to the direction of the church.

No minister (or employee) of the church shall officiate at any marriage ceremony unless such marriage is consistent with this policy.
